# Book Summarizer

Get the shape of a whole book — its central argument or plot, how the chapters build it, the ideas and examples worth remembering, and where it lands — from a PDF of up to 300 pages.

## Key facts

- For non-fiction, essays, textbooks, reports in book form and novels available as PDF.
- Long books are read in parts and merged, so the middle chapters are not skipped.
- Output: central thesis or plot → structure by part/chapter → key ideas → notable examples → conclusion.
- Ask follow-ups: “What does the author say about habits in chapter 4?” — with page references.
- Free, no account; only upload books you are entitled to use.

## What the summary covers

A book summary is only useful if it keeps the structure of the argument. With the **Book / long text** document type, the summary gives:

- **The central thesis** (non-fiction) or **the premise and plot** (fiction).
- **The structure** — one line per part or chapter when the book makes them identifiable.
- **The key ideas or turning points**, in the order the book develops them.
- **Notable examples, studies or stories** the author uses to make the case.
- **The conclusion or ending**, and what the author asks the reader to do or think.

The default length on this page is *Comprehensive* (around 800 words, with headings). Choose *Key points* for a one-screen recap of the ideas worth keeping.

## How to summarize a book

1. **Upload the book PDF** — Up to 300 pages and 20 MB. For longer books, upload one part at a time.
2. **Keep “Book / long text” selected** — The tool reads every part of the book and merges its notes.
3. **Read the chapter-by-chapter overview** — Page references show where each idea appears.
4. **Ask about a chapter or a concept** — “Summarize chapter 7”, “What are the author's three rules?”, “Who is the narrator?”.
5. **Save your notes** — Download the summary as Markdown and keep it with your reading notes.

## Example of the output format

*Illustrative example for a fictional non-fiction book:*

> **Central thesis.** Small, consistent routines beat occasional bursts of motivation (p. 3).
> **Part I — Why routines work (ch. 1-3).** The author contrasts goal-setting with system-building, using the case of a cycling team (p. 21).
> **Part II — Building them (ch. 4-9).** Four steps: make the cue obvious, the action easy, the reward immediate, the progress visible (p. 58).
> **Conclusion.** Progress compounds; the reader is asked to design one routine before finishing the book (p. 241).

## Who uses it

- **Students** who need the argument of an assigned book before a seminar or an essay.
- **Professionals** deciding which business book deserves a full read.
- **Book clubs** preparing discussion points.
- **Researchers** extracting a book's position for a literature review.

> **Have a book PDF waiting?** — Get its argument, chapter by chapter, before you decide to read it.

## Limits and fair use

Summaries are no substitute for the experience of reading a novel, and nuance is always lost in compression. Upload only PDFs you are allowed to use — your own purchases, public-domain books, open-access titles or documents you received for your work. Very long books (over 300 pages) should be split into parts, for example with a free PDF splitter.

## FAQ

### Can it summarize a 500-page book?

The free tool accepts up to 300 pages per PDF. Split a longer book into two or three files (by part) and summarize each one; you can then ask for key points of each part.

### Does it work for novels?

Yes. For fiction the summary covers the premise, main characters, plot by part, major turning points and the ending. Choose Short if you want to avoid detailed spoilers.

### Can I summarize EPUB or Kindle books?

The tool reads PDF only. If you have an EPUB without DRM, export or print it to PDF first.

### Can I get a summary per chapter?

Ask in the Q&A tab: “Summarize chapter 3 in 10 bullet points.” The answer is based on the text of that chapter and cites its pages.

### Which languages?

Books in any common language. Summaries can be written in 20 languages, so you can summarize a French essay in English, for example.
